SRP Battery Partner™ Program FAQ

What is the SRP Battery Partner program?
  • The SRP Battery Partner program rewards customers throughout the year for allowing SRP to discharge their battery storage systems during times of high demand.
  • SRP sends signals to inverters that control batteries to reduce peak energy use, reduce air pollution and lower electricity costs.
How will I know if I'm eligible to enroll?
  • To participate in the SRP Battery Partner program, you must be an SRP electric customer. You must also use a battery storage system controlled by a supported battery or inverter manufacturer, and your battery must perform in accordance with what is in your interconnection service agreement (ISA).
  • Please see the list of supported inverter manufacturers and battery models below. You can also reach out to your installer to see if they install one of the supported inverters.

Where can I find the Terms and Conditions for the program?
How do the events work?

Here’s what to expect if you join the SRP Battery Partner program. These guidelines explain how events work, when they occur, and what flexibility you have as a participant.

  • SRP will signal your battery system to automatically charge and discharge to support the grid on peak demand days.
  • Daily battery performance covering on-peak usage will be considered when SRP calls events.
  • SRP may call up to 80 events per year, across two seasons.
  • The summer season will go from May 1 to Oct. 31. The winter season will go from Nov.1 to April 30.
  • Events may occur any day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Events may be between 1-4 hours in duration, but most will be 1-3 hours.
  • SRP will make reasonable attempts to avoid scheduling events when severe storms are forecasted.
  • Participants can opt out of events at any time.
  • Events will never draw your battery below 20% state of charge.
  • After the event ends, your battery will return to its pre-event settings.
Will event participation create demand spikes on my monthly bill?
SRP customizes battery dispatch strategies based on each customer’s SRP price plan to help maximize savings and avoid unintended costs. For example, if you're on a demand-based plan, SRP carefully manages battery discharge to avoid triggering on-peak demand spikes. The goal is to support the grid while improving the overall economics for participating customers.
What is the incentive for participating?
By enrolling in the program and participating in the events, you can earn $55 per kilowatt (kW) of additional capacity delivered each season.
How much can I expect to earn?
Your incentive is based on the average extra power (beyond your battery’s typical performance) your battery provides during peak events. Actual performance depends on factors like system size, configuration, connectivity, and other factors.

The example below is for illustrative purposes only and shows how a summer season incentive is calculated.

Event  Event Length Total Energy Delivered Event Baseline Additional Event Capacity (incentivized amount)
Event 1 2 hours 10 kWh 2.5 kW 2.5 kW
Event 2 1 hour 11 kWh 2 kW 9 kW
Event 3 2 hours 8.5 kWh 2 kW 2.2 5kW
Event 4 3 hours 9 kWh 3 kW 0 kW
Event 5 2 hours Opt Out 3 kW 0 kW
Event 6 2 hours 10 kWh 2 kW 3 kW
Event 7 1 hour 11 kWh 2 kW 9 kW
Event 8 3 hours 9 kWh 2 kW 1 kW

Calculating the Event Baseline: A battery baseline is calculated by reviewing performance over the past five similar days and averaging the four highest results during the event window. For example, for a 2-hour event from 6–8 p.m. on Monday, SRP looks at the previous five business days to determine your baseline.

Event 1 Monday (6P-8P) Tuesday (6P-8P) Wednesday (6P-8P) Thursday (6P-8P) Friday (6P-8P)
Daily Capacity (kW) 2 2 2 3.5 2.5

Baseline Battery Performance Calculation

(2 + 2 + 3.5 +2.5) ⁄ 4 days = 2.5 kW

Calculating the Additional Event Capacity

Total Energy Delivered ⁄ Event Length - Event Baseline = Additional Event Capacity

Calculating Average Seasonal Performance and Incentive:

Average  performance  = (2.5 + 9 + 2.25 + 0 + 0 + 3 + 9 + 1) ⁄ 8 events in the season = 3.34 kW

Seasonal Performance Incentive:

3.34 kW * $55/kW = $183.40 bill credit

When and how can I expect to receive my incentive?
Incentive payments for performance will be provided at the conclusion of each summer and winter season, paid as a bill credit up to two months after the close of the season.
How will I be notified of an event?
Prior to a conservation event occurring, you will receive a notification. Unless you opt out of the discharge for that event, the process will occur automatically by your battery manufacturer sending a signal to your battery. One of the benefits of your battery system is that you do not need to prepare or change anything during the event. Your system will perform automatically.
How many events can I expect?
The number of events will vary depending on SRP’s grid needs, but no more than 80 events will be called each year.
How can I ensure that I'll still have backup energy if I need it?
  • SRP will not call events if a severe storm is forecasted to ensure that customers’ battery storage systems can be utilized for backup power if needed.
  • You will be grouped by your rate plan and our intent is to only take excess energy, not what is needed to cover your load or provide with you backup power.
  • The battery will only participate down to 20% when called for an event.
Can I participate if I only have a battery storage system (without solar)?
Yes, all that is required to participate is a battery energy storage system.
How can I opt out of an event?
  • Battery partners provide the opportunity to opt out of events. FranklinWH customers can opt out within their FranklinWH app by toggling the 'Participate in Event' button under event details.
  • Tesla customers can opt out within their Tesla app by toggling to the 'Virtual Power Plant' button under event details.
  • Note: Since your incentive is based on your battery’s average performance over all event hours during the year. 0 kW will be recorded for any hours your battery does not contribute.
Do I need to maintain an internet connection to my energy storage system?
Yes. If we cannot communicate with your energy storage system, or if your energy storage system cannot discharge when needed (due to a maintenance issue), the incentive paid will be affected.
If I join mid-season, will my incentive be based on the events I could participate in or all events of the season?
The incentive would be prorated based on the events that occurred after you joined the program.
How do I unenroll from the program?
Please contact your battery vendor or installer, or email srpbatterypartner@energyhub.com to unenroll from the SRP Battery Partner program.

This is a pilot program, approved for five years (ending April 30, 2030) and open to a maximum of 5,000 customers. If the pilot is considered successful, SRP will consider making it a permanent offering.
