Efficiency Works Flex EV FAQs
What is the Efficiency Works Flex EV program?
- The Flex EV program is a voluntary program for electric utility customers of Estes Park, Longmont and Loveland utilities with eligible EVs or Level 2 chargers.
- As long as you keep your vehicle connected and plugged in, the program may make small, automatic adjustments to charging times during times of high energy demand. These adjustments help ease pressure on the grid, reduce reliance on less efficient power sources and support a cleaner energy future – all while helping keep energy costs low for everyone and making sure your EV is charged when you need it.
Am I eligible to enroll?
To be eligible for the Efficiency Works Flex EV program, participants must:
-
Be a residential or commercial electric customer of Estes Park Power and Communications, Fort Collins Utilities*, Longmont Power & Communications and City of Loveland Utilities.
-
-
*Fort Collins Utilities electric customers are not eligible to participate in the Efficiency Works Flex EV program because Fort Collins offers its own Smart Charging programs. Learn more at the Peak Partners website.
-
-
-
Own, rent or lease the equipment and be authorized to make decisions for the enrolled address.
-
Agree to brief charging adjustments during high-demand periods.
-
Keep the enrolled device internet-connected and the EV or EV charger must remain registered with the device provider (i.e., ChargePoint, Tesla, Ford, etc.).
-
In addition to meeting the criteria above, the following factors will be considered before Participant enrollment is approved:
- Residential and commercial tenants renting a site may be eligible to participate if the enrolled EV charger or EV is registered in the renter’s name, using the rental address and email address.
- Residential and commercial participants who own or lease an eligible device may receive enrollment and participation incentives for either one charger rebate or one EV telematics incentive per site address. Each participant can enroll up to two devices of the same type (charger or vehicle).
- Residential and commercial tenants renting a site may be eligible to participate if the enrolled EV charger or EV is registered in the renter’s name, using the rental address and email address.
-
- Commercial sites with multiple eligible devices per service address may be eligible for multiple incentives per address. Additional verification may be required before enrollment approval.
- If an existing participating EV or EV charger device is replaced with a new eligible device, the new device will need to be re-enrolled for annual incentives. An additional enrollment incentive will not be issued, but participants remain eligible for the annual incentive for continued participation.
- Participant’s EV or EV charger device must be tied to an individual electric meter specific to that site. Multiple residential or commercial tenants using a shared electric master-meter may not be eligible.
- Commercial sites with multiple eligible devices per service address may be eligible for multiple incentives per address. Additional verification may be required before enrollment approval.
- The program reserves the right to unenroll participants who do not meet minimum connectivity and participation requirements.
Which EVs and chargers are eligible for participation?
How do I enroll?
-
Participants can enroll by visiting the program page and selecting their EV or charger to get started in the enrollment process.
What is the enrollment incentive?
-
Eligible participants receive a one time $50 enrollment incentive per site address within 60 days of their enrollment approval. Incentive payment options are sent to the email address provided during enrollment from EfficiencyWorks@ChoicePaymentHub.com.
-
For residential customers, payment options include: Venmo, PayPal, digital MasterCard or mailed check.
- Commercial customers will receive a mailed check (W9 required).
-
- If participants replace an already enrolled EV or charger, they will not receive an additional $50 enrollment incentive. However, participants are still eligible for the $60 annual incentive if the new EV or charger qualifies for the program.
- The program reserves the right to change incentives or discontinue the offering at any time.
What is the annual incentive?
Enrolled participants may be eligible to earn an annual incentive paid by the end of October if they:
-
Enroll before August 31 (for first-year eligibility)
- Keep the device enrolled, registered and connected at the approved address.
- Maintain at least 25% participation in charging adjustment events per year. If a participant does not meet this threshold, the program reserves the right to limit the annual participation incentive.
- Participant must remain in good standing with program requirements. Efficiency Works reserves the right to contact participant to troubleshoot device connectivity and verify the device is served by an eligible electric utility.
- Incentive payment options are sent to the email address provided during enrollment from EfficiencyWorks@ChoicePaymentHub.com.
- The program reserves the right to change incentives or discontinue the offering at any time.
How will I know a charging adjustment is in progress?
- This depends on the participant’s EV or charger manufacturer. Some apps will send a notification before or during an adjustment. If notifications aren’t available, participants can always view and manage charging through their EV or charger app. If participants have a Tesla, they can also use the Charging Rewards app to check charging status.
What can be expected during a Flex EV event?
-
After participants enroll, they’ll keep plugging in at home the same way they do now. At times when the grid is busiest, the program may slow or shift charging to less busy hours, often overnight. These adjustments happen in the background and don’t affect the final charge. If a participant’s plans change, they can override the adjustment in their EV or charger app and start charging right away.
Will my EV always be fully charged?
- Yes. The participant’s EV will always reach the set charge level. Adjustments may delay charging for a short time, but they never reduce the final charge. And if participants need to leave earlier than planned, they can override the schedule at any time and charging will start immediately.
Can I opt out of an event?
- Yes, absolutely. Participants are always in control and can opt out of any optimization event from their EV or charger app.
Where can I find the terms and conditions for the program?
- Participants can find the program terms and conditions for all manufacturers here: Terms and Conditions
What if I have additional questions about the program?
-
We’re happy to help. Reach us at EfficiencyWorks@energyhub.com with any questions about the program.
Do I need to do anything after enrolling?
- No. Once a participant is enrolled, everything happens automatically. Just make sure the EV is plugged in when at home.
What should I do if I no longer want to participate?
- Participants may leave the program at any time by sending an email to EfficiencyWorks@energyhub.com to request unenrollment of their device. Once a participant is unenrolled, they won’t receive the annual $60 incentive, and their EV or charger will no longer participate in events.
