ConnectedSolutions NY Gas FAQ
-
National Grid’s voluntary demand response gas program is designed to reward you for reducing your energy use during periods of peak natural gas demand.
-
Participants agree to brief, limited events which adjust their thermostats during peak natural gas demand periods from November 1 to March 31. You can anticipate at least one adjustment, and a maximum of up to 5 adjustments per winter season. Peak demand periods for adjustments typically occur on especially cold days. Adjustments will not occur on holidays.
-
National Grid residential or small business gas customers who have installed a qualifying connected thermostat controlling their natural gas furnace are eligible.
-
Participants will receive a one-time $25 virtual prepaid Mastercard® per device after being accepted into the program and an annual $25 Prepaid Mastercard per device at the end of each winter season for each subsequent year they stay enrolled and participate. Participants with select thermostat models can earn an additional $15 per year in annual participation incentives if their manufacturer participates in Full Day Bonus events.
To be eligible to enroll, you must meet the following qualifications:
-
You are a National Grid residential or small business gas customer.
-
You use your thermostat to control your natural gas furnace or boiler.
-
You have an installed, eligible internet-connected thermostat.
Participants will receive a one-time $25 Prepaid Mastercard per device after being accepted into the program.

Confirm your eligibility for the ConnectedSolutions program with these three questions
-
Are you a National Grid residential or small business gas customer?
-
Do you use your thermostat to control your natural gas furnace or boiler?
-
Will you allow National Grid to make short, low impact thermostat adjustments on high energy usage days?
If you confirm these three questions, please choose whether you have an internet-connected thermostat to enroll in the ConnectedSolutions program.
-
If you have an existing thermostat, please select your thermostat among the eligible models. If you don’t have an existing eligible thermostat, please choose a model, purchase and install it. Once you have installed and activated, come back to enroll your new thermostat in the ConnectedSolutions program.
-
Click the Enroll Now button to go to your thermostat’s enrollment site, where you’ll follow a series of simple steps to enroll.
Once your eligibility is confirmed by National Grid, you will be enrolled in the program. You will receive notification on your eligibility status in your email.
- At the start of an event, your thermostat will be automatically adjusted up to 4 degrees below the current temperature.
-
The adjustment will last no more than 4 hours and will occur between 6-10 am or 4-8 pm.
-
Once the temperature adjustment is over, your thermostat will return to its normal set point and/or schedule.
-
You can opt out of an event at any time from your mobile device, web browser, or thermostat.
- During Full Day Bonus events your thermostat will be adjusted by approximately 1 degree below the scheduled temperature.
-
The adjustment will last for 20 hours, segmented into 3 adjustment periods from 10am-4pm, 4pm-12am, and 12am-6am, followed by a standard 4 degree offset for 4 hours from 6am-10pm
-
You can opt out of an event adjustment period at any time from your mobile device, web browser, or thermostat.
