What is the NIPSCO’s Power Rewards Program?
- The Power Rewards Program is a voluntary program for eligible NIPSCO residential customers with qualified smart thermostats connected to their central A/C and Wi-Fi. When summer temperatures rise and electricity use spikes, participants can allow NIPSCO to make small, temporary temperature adjustments to enrolled smart thermostats. These adjustments help reduce stress on the grid and a more reliable energy future.
- The summer season lasts from June 1st to September 30th.
- Adjustments are limited to a 4 degree increase or less and last no more than 4 hours. Most events happen between 1–7pm CT, but they may occur between 6am–10pm CT.
- Participants will receive a one-time $50 Virtual Visa® Prepaid Card (limit one per household) after successfully enrolling in the program. Participants will also get a $25 Virtual Visa® Prepaid Card each year they remain in the program.
Am I eligible to enroll in the program?
- Be a NIPSCO residential electric customer with active service in your name and an account in good standing.
- Use a qualified smart thermostat with central A/C that’s connected to Wi-Fi.
- Agree to brief thermostat adjustments during high-demand periods.
What do I get for enrolling?
- You’ll receive a one-time $50 Virtual Visa® Prepaid Card after you successfully enroll in the program. Limit one per household.
When will I get my $50 Virtual Visa® Prepaid Card?
- Your enrollment reward will be sent to the email address used to register your smart thermostat within 60 days of being accepted into the program.
How do I earn the $25 seasonal reward?
- If you remain actively enrolled in the program, you’ll receive a $25 Virtual Visa® Prepaid Card each year following the end of the summer season. The $25 Virtual Visa® Prepaid Card will be sent to the email address used to register your smart thermostat. Limit one per household.
If I replace my thermostat, can I get another $50 reward?
- No, the reward is limited to one per household. However, you’ll still be eligible for the $25 seasonal reward as long as the new thermostat qualifies, and you remain in the program.
I am in Power Rewards, I got a new Wi-Fi thermostat, what next?
- As long as your new thermostat qualifies for the program, you’re still able to participate in Power Rewards. You won’t qualify for another enrollment reward but can keep earning $25 every season.

How do I sign up for NIPSCO’s Power Rewards Program?
- If you already have a qualifying thermostat, select your brand from the list of eligible models and click “Enroll Now.” You’ll be directed to a short enrollment form.
- If you don’t have a qualifying thermostat, you can choose one from the list, purchase and install it, then return to complete your enrollment.
- Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will receive confirmation of your enrollment status via the email address linked to your thermostat account.
How will I know if a temperature adjustment is in progress?
- Depending on your thermostat provider, notifications will appear on the thermostat or in your web/mobile application.
What happens during an "event"?
- During an event, your thermostat will be adjusted by no more than 4 degrees for up to 4 hours.
- Sometimes, your thermostat may pre-cool your home before an event starts to help you stay comfortable—though this may not happen if the event is urgent.
Will these adjustments affect my comfort?
- Adjustments are small, and your comfort is always the priority. You can opt out of any event at any time through your thermostat, app or web browser.
Can I opt out of an event?
- Yes, absolutely. You’re always in control and can opt out of any event from your thermostat, mobile device or web app.
What if I want to leave the program?
- You can leave the program at any time. Just send an email to NIPSCO.PowerRewards@energyhub.com to request removal. Once you’re unenrolled, you won’t receive the annual $25 reward and your thermostat will no longer participate in events.
