SCE Smart Energy Program FAQ

How do I sign up for the Smart Energy Program?

  • First, confirm your eligibility for the Smart Energy Program by answering these three questions.

    1. Are you an SCE residential or business customer and have a smart meter?

    2. Do you use your thermostat to control your central air conditioning?

    3. Will you allow SCE to make short, low impact thermostat adjustments on high energy usage days?

  • If you confirm these three questions, and already have a qualifying internet-connected thermostat, you can apply for the Smart Energy Program.

  • If you have an existing qualifying thermostat, please select your thermostat among the eligible models.

  • If you don’t have an existing qualifiying thermostat, please choose a model, purchase and install it. Once you have installed and activated it, come back to enroll your new thermostat in the Smart Energy Program.

  • Click the Enroll Now button to go to your thermostat’s enrollment site, where you’ll follow a series of simple steps to enroll. The applicant’s name must match the name on your SCE electricity account or be an authorized party on your SCE electricity account.

  • Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will be enrolled in the program. You will receive an email notification on your eligibility status.

  • You must receive service under rate schedule D, D-CARE, D-FERA, TOU-D, TOU-D-T, TOU-GS-1, TOU-GS-2, TOU-GS-1-RTP or TOU-GS-2-RTP.

Will participating in the program negatively impact my comfort?
By participating in the program, you are signing up for brief, limited adjustments to your home’s thermostat. These adjustments will only affect the temperature of your home or business by a few degrees, with little impact on comfort. And you can easily opt out of an event at any time, for any reason.
How do I collect the $75 enrollment incentive?
You will receive your one-time rebate of $75 in the form of bill credits. Rebate is limited to one per service account and requires a qualifying thermostat that has not previously received the incentive or was not provided free of charge through an SCE program. Terms and Conditions apply.
What is the participation incentive?
Each each year you participate you may qualify for an incentive in the Smart Energy Program. The credits will appear on your SCE electric bill  in the summer months between June 1 through September 30. You can receive up to $50 in bill credits if you enroll before June 1 and stay enrolled through September 30. If you are enrolled for only part of the time during June 1 to September 30, you will have your credits pro-rated to the summer season days in which you were actively enrolled in the program, at a rate of $0.40984 per summer season day.
If I replace my old thermostat with a new model, will I receive an additional enrollment incentive?
No, since you have already received an enrollment incentive, you will not receive an additional one, but you are eligible for the annual incentive for continued participation.
