Power Partner Rewards FAQ

What is Power Partner Rewards?

  • Power Partner Rewards is an optional program for residential and small business customers with eligible smart thermostats controlling their air conditioner. When summer temperatures rise and electricity demand spikes, your local electric utility’s power supplier may make small, temporary temperature adjustments to enrolled smart thermostats. These adjustments help ease energy demand and may reduce the use of less efficient power sources, which helps manage energy costs for everyone.

  • Participants agree to brief temperature adjustments of their thermostats, typically between June 1 and September 30. Adjustments are limited to 4 degrees or less, and will last no more than 4 hours, with a maximum of 20 adjustments per year. These adjustments will most often occur on hot or humid weekdays and will not occur on weekends or holidays.

  • Participants will receive a one-time $25 utility bill credit (limit one per household) after successfully enrolling in the program. You’ll also get a $25 utility bill credit each year you remain in the program.

Am I eligible to enroll in the program?

To be eligible for Power Partner Rewards, you must:

  • Be a residential or small business customer of your local electric utility.

  • Have the electric service in your name.
  • Use a qualified smart thermostat that’s connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Agree to brief thermostat adjustments during high-demand periods.

What do I get for enrolling?

  • You’ll receive a one-time $25 utility bill credit after you successfully enroll in the program. Limit one per household.

When will I get my $25 bill credit?

  • Your $25 will be applied to your utility account within 60 days of being accepted into the program.

How do I earn the $25 annual reward?

  • As long as you remain actively enrolled in the program, you’ll receive a $25 utility bill credit in October or November of each year, depending on your billing cycle. Limit one utility bill credit per account.

How will I know if my utility is eligible for enrollment?

If I replace my thermostat, can I get another $25 enrollment reward?

  • No, the enrollment reward is limited to one per household. However, you’ll still be eligible for the $25 annual reward as long as your new thermostat qualifies you to remain in the program.

How do I sign up for Power Partner Rewards?

  • If you already have a qualifying thermostat, select your brand from the list of eligible models and click “Enroll Now.” You’ll be directed to a short enrollment form.

  • If you don’t have a qualifying thermostat, you can choose one from the list, purchase and install it, then return to complete your enrollment. Wisconsin residents can purchase through the Focus on Energy Marketplace and Michigan residents may be able to purchase through the Efficiency United Marketplace

  • Once your local electric utility confirms your eligibility, you will receive confirmation of your enrollment status via the email address linked to your thermostat account.

How will I know that a temperature adjustment event is in progress?

  • Depending on your thermostat provider, notifications will appear on the thermostat or in your thermostat’s web/mobile application. You may also receive notifications from your thermostat provider prior to and after the event.

What happens during an event?

  • During an event, your thermostat will be adjusted by up to 4 degrees above your current setting for no more than 4 hours.

  • Your thermostat may automatically pre-cool your home before an event starts to help you stay comfortable.

Will these adjustments affect my comfort?

  • Temperature adjustments are small, and pre-cooling often occurs prior to the event and can ensure comfort during the event. You can easily opt out of any adjustment event at any time through your thermostat, app, or web browser.

Can I opt out of an event?

  • Yes. You can opt out at any time during a thermostat adjustment event from your thermostat’s control screen, mobile device, or web app.

What if I want to leave the program?

  • You can leave the program at any time by sending an email to PowerPartnerRewards@energyhub.com to request removal. Once you’re unenrolled, you won’t receive the annual $25 reward, and your thermostat will no longer participate in events.
