PECO Flex & Save FAQ

What is the PECO Flex & Save Rewards Program?
  • Flex & Save rewards customers for allowing PECO to discharge their battery storage systems during times of high electricity demand, often referred to as events.

  • During seasons of high energy demand, PECO will send signals to your battery’s inverter to temporarily share (i.e., discharge) stored energy. These automatic adjustments help reduce strain on the grid and keep electricity more reliable for everyone. Flex & Save is divided into two seasons, summer and winter.

  • The summer season lasts from June 1 to August 31 with daily events scheduled during non-holiday weekdays. Events will typically last from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

  • The winter season lasts from January 1 to February 28 (or 29) with daily events called during non-holiday weekdays. Events are typically scheduled twice a day from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Why is PECO offering Flex & Save?

Under Pennsylvania Act 129 program, PECO must offer customer programs to reduce their electric consumption and demand. To achieve that goal, the Public Utility Commission (PUC) approved a PECO plan that created several energy efficiency programs, including PECO Flex & Save.

How long will the PECO Flex & Save Program be available?

This program is currently available through May 31, 2031. Rules and incentives may change, and funds are limited and subject to availability.

Who is eligible to participate?

All PECO residential electric customers are eligible who are not on a Time-of-Use rate.

How will I know if I’m eligible to enroll?
  • To participate in the PECO Flex & Save program, you must be a PECO residential electric customer. You must also use a battery storage system controlled by a supported battery or inverter manufacturer, and your battery must perform in accordance with what is in your interconnection service agreement (ISA).

  • Please see the list of supported inverter manufacturers and battery models below. You can also reach out to your installer to see if they installed one of the supported inverters.

What is the incentive for participating?

You receive $80 per kW discharged. See details below.

How much can I expect to earn?
  • Your payment will be based on the average power contribution, in kilowatts (kW), of your battery system throughout all event hours.

  • Battery system performance will vary based on size, configuration, maintaining internet connectivity and other factors. Please contact your battery storage system manufacturer for more information about your battery's expected performance and the best estimation of your incentive based on your battery system.

  • The example provided below is for illustrative purposes only. The average kW discharged will vary based on your battery system. In the below example, the customer  has a battery system of 10 kW capacity.

  • Example Rewards Scenario:

Season

Average kW discharged during peak periods

Potential Rewards

Winter

4 kW discharged

4 kW x $80^ = $320

Summer

2 kW discharged

2 kW x $80 = $160

^80/kW based on the average kW reduction delivered by a Participant’s battery storage system across all Adjustment Event hours during an entire season.

  • The customer can earn up to an average of $480 for the year* when you add their rewards from participating in the summer and winter season.

  • For questions regarding compensation, please email pecoflexrewards@energyhub.com.

  • To be eligible for a season reward, the participant must remain enrolled through the end of the applicable season. Seasons are June 1st to August 31st and January 1st to February 28th. Program funds for reward payments are limited and subject to availability. Reward amount and this program are subject to change, including termination, without prior notice.

When and how can I expect to receive my incentive?

Incentive payments will be issued by paper check and mailed within 6 weeks after the conclusion of each season to the mailing address provided at enrollment. Participants are responsible for ensuring that mailing information is accurate and current.

How can I ensure that I’ll still have backup energy if I need it?
  • PECO will not signal your battery to discharge stored energy if a severe storm is forecasted to ensure customers' battery storage systems can be utilized for backup power if needed.

  • In addition, some battery vendors can help you configure your system to limit how much your system will discharge during events. Please note, however, that this will affect how much your system will earn.

Can I participate if I have a battery storage system only (without solar)?

Customers who don’t have a renewable energy system but do have an energy storage system that charges from the electricity grid may participate in Flex & Save.

Do I need to maintain an internet connection to my energy storage system?

Yes. If we cannot communicate with your energy storage system, or if your energy storage system cannot discharge when needed (due to a maintenance issue), the incentive paid will be affected.

How do I unenroll from the program?

Please contact your battery vendor or installer, or pecoflexrewards@energyhub.com to unenroll from PECO Flex & Save or call 888-5-PECO-SAVE (888-573-2672) if you have any questions.
