SMECO SmartTemp FAQ
What is SMECO’s SmartTemp program?
-
SMECO’s SmartTemp is a voluntary program for SMECO residential members who have eligible smart thermostats connected to their central air conditioner/heat pump.
-
When summer temperatures climb, demand for electricity increases and power costs more. SMECO’s SmartTemp program is designed to help reduce energy use during times of high energy demand. Reducing demand decreases the use of less efficient and more expensive power sources. That’s good for the environment, and that helps everyone save.
-
Participants agree to brief thermostat adjustments of 4 degrees or less during peak electric demand periods from June through October. Adjustments to your thermostat typically occur on weekdays and last no more than four hours. (Unless there is a system emergency, peak periods do not occur on weekends or holidays.)
-
Once members have successfully enrolled, you will receive a one-time $50 enrollment bonus check for enrolling and participating in SMECO’s SmartTemp program.
-
If you use your smart thermostat for cooling only, you can earn up to $50 each summer, paid in $10 bill credits each month for June through October. Enroll your smart thermostat to start earning for summer only.
To be eligible for the SmartTemp program, please use the Resideo Smart Home app to connect your Honeywell thermostat to wi-fi and not the Resideo First Alert app.

- At the start of an adjustment event, your thermostat will be automatically adjusted up to 4 degrees above the current temperature setting.
- The typical event will last four hours or less on non-holiday weekday afternoons. Once the event is over, your thermostat will return to its normal setting.
